Dairy Goat Show Rules

Arrival Time: Wednesday, July 17 from 8 am to 10

am. Show: Wednesday, July 17 @ 12:30 pm


Dairy Goat Show Rules:



  1. All goats must be owned and under the care of the 4-H/FFA member by June 1, 2024
  2. Entries are limited to two goats per class per exhibitor. Premiums will be awarded accordingly to show results. Exhibitors may enter one animal only in the Home-Raised category. Please see General Rules for details.
  3. Animals must be in place by 10 am.
  4. All dairy breeds will show together, registered or unregistered. Kinders used for dairy purposes show in the Dairy and Working goat show. Kinder market wethers show in the Meat Goat show. No percentage Boers allowed in breeding stock classes. Percentage Boer breeding stock will show under the Meat Goat show. Boer and percentage Boer goats are only allowed in obstacle course, harness goat and companion goat classes. It is preferable that dairy goats be disbudded, dehorned or polled.
  5. The base date for computing the age of the animal is July 16, 2024.
  6. In accordance with Missouri Department of Agriculture and the Missouri State Fair health guidelines. All goats (including wethers) must have a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (health certificate) to be eligible to show. This health certificate must have been written within 30 days of exhibition. All goats must be identified with ear tag, tattoo, or microchip.
  7. No milk out required, but the judge will discriminate against distended udders.
  8. Herdsmanship will be judged daily, on a Club basis. Club displays and educational information for fair goers are encouraged.
  9. Animals must be free of contagious diseases, visible lesions, abscesses, or warts. Goats may be removed for health risks by the show superintendent.
  10. Showmanship classes will be held for all dairy/working goat exhibitors. Animals should be show clipped as appropriate for breed/class. It is recommended that dairy and working goat exhibitors wear nice jeans or pants with a shirt that has a collar or white pants and white shirt with a collar. Long skirts are also acceptable.
  11. Pee Wee Showmanship is a non-4-H sponsored activity (open to Clover Kids and others) for children ages 4-7 years old. Suitable animals will be provided for these children to use.
  12. All 4-H and FFA members in Missouri are eligible to show goats in all classes except the Home Raised and Showmanship classes. Belt buckles will only be awarded to Boone County 4-H and FFA members.
  13. All exhibitors will be responsible for cleaning their pens and tack areas before they are released from fairgrounds. Exhibitors must have superintendent look at pens prior to leaving the fairgrounds. 14. Showmanship: Junior 8-11 years old; Intermediate 12-15 years old; Senior 16-21 years old


Classes and Show Order


Fiber Goats - Angora and Cashmere breeds 

G 1 ---Fiber goat, under 2 years of age, doe or wether 
G 2 ---Fiber goat, over 2 years of age, doe or wether. 

Mini-Goats – Pygmy and other miniature goat breeds. 

G 3---Doe under 2 years, never had kids. 
G 4---Doe, over 1 year, has had kids 
Kinders 
G 5 ---Doe kid under 6 months. (February-July) 
G 6 ---Doe, 6 months under 1year, has not had kids. (August-January) 
G 7--- Doe, yearling, never had kids. (1 year olds) 
G 8 ---Doe, 1 year and under 3 years, has had kids (1and 2 years old) 
G 9 --Doe, 3 years and over, has had kids. (3 years and older) Grand and Reserve Kinder Goat  

Dairy Goat Breeds, including Nigerian Dwarf 

Junior Does ---animals under 2 years of age that have never freshened (come into milk). 
G 10--Doe kid, under 3 months of age. (May-July) 
G 11---Doe kid, over 3 months and under 6 months of age. (February-April) 
G 12-- Doe kid, over 6 months and under 12 months of age. (August-January) 
G13---Yearling Doe, under 2 years of age and never been in milk. 
Senior Does ---any doe that has freshened, should be in milk. 
G 14--Over 1 year, under 3 years of age. (1&2 years old)  
G 15-Over 3 years, under 5 years of age. (3&4 years old)  
G 16--5 years and over. (5 years and older) 
G 17--Dam and Daughter. 
G 18-Produce of dam (2 does from same mother) 
G 19— Kinder Dam of Daughter  
G 20— Kinder Produce of dam Kiko 
G 21— doe under 2years old & has not had kids 
G 22 —doe over 1 year old & has had kids 

Best Dairy Doe in Show Belt Buckle: All grand and reserve dairy champions compete for Best Dairy Doe in Show. 

Companion Goat: G 23 --Companion Goat Class--- goats kept for companion purposes, not for breeding. May be does or wethers, no bucks. May be any breed or type of goat. Will be judged on conformation of goat, goat handling by exhibitor and bond between goat and exhibitor. All breeds and ages show together. Animals in this class cannot show in any of the breeding classes (listed above). 

Working Goats: G 24 - Goat Obstacle Course Competition May be any breed and any age of goat. May be a doe or a wether. No bucks allowed. May be horned, disbudded or polled. Treats and rewards are allowed. Obstacle course will be provided. No choke collars allowed for obstacle course. Junior division will be 8-12 year old. Senior division will be 13 years and up. 

Harness Goat: G 25 - Any goat that is trained to harness. May be pulling cart if over 1 year of age. 

Fun costume class for goats and exhibitors: this is a fun class for goat exhibitors. Special fun prizes like Most Original, Scariest, Best Home Made, and Best Group will be awarded. Goat games will follow. May be pulling cart if over 1 year of age.
