4H/FFA MEAT GOAT SHOW RULES

Rules:

  1. Rules listed in the General Rules section in addition to following rules will apply to the Goat Show.
  2. All market goats must be owned and under the care of the Boone County 4-H/FFA member enrolled in the project by Monday, May 8, 2024. All breeding goats must be owned by July 1, 2024.
  3. Market goats/breeding stock goats may be of any meat breed or crossbred.
  4. 4. All Boone County market wethers class goats must attend a mandatory weigh-in and nose printing on Wednesday May 8, 2024 5-7PM Boone County Fairgrounds Show Palace. Males must be castrated prior to weigh-in.
  5. Only Wethers will be shown in market class.
  6. In accordance with Missouri Department of Agriculture and Missouri State Fair health guidelines, all goats (including wethers) must have a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (health certificate) to be eligible to show. This health certificate must have been written within 30 days of exhibition. All goats must also be identified either by Scrapie tag or tattoo. All animals could be subject to random drug testing.
  7. Goats in the market class must be born after July 31, 2023.
  8. Market goats must weigh a minimum of 60 pounds to be eligible to sell at the Junior Livestock Auction. No white ribbon animals will sell.
  9. All market goats must be Scrapie tagged or tattooed for identification.
  10. 10. Market animals need to be Scrapie tagged at time of May weigh-in.
  11. 11. Slick shearing is required for market goats, prior to the fair weigh-in. Hair above knees and hocks must be ¼” or less.
  12. An exhibitor may show a total of 10 market goats but only two entries per breeding class will be allowed.
  13. All 4-H and FFA members in Missouri are eligible to show goats in all classes except the Home Raised Meat Goat Class. Only Boone County exhibitors may show in the Home Raised Class. Goats must be shown in a market class to be eligible for the Home Raised class. The definition of Home Raised can be found in the Boone Co. Fair General Rules.
  14. Violation of any rule may result in disqualification from the current fair, including sale, and the subsequent county fair.
  15. When a judge is handling goats or when you are waiting to be judged, all four (4) feet must be on the ground. It is acceptable to briefly lift the front end of a goat off the ground to set the front feet.
