4H/FFA SHEEP SHOW RULES

General regulations:

  1. Rules listed in the General Rules section in addition to following rules will apply to the Sheep Show.
  2. All breeding sheep must be owned and under the care of the member enrolled in the project by July 1, 2024. Market lamb owned and under the care of the member enrolled by May 8, 2024.
  3. Breeding sheep must be registered in their respective association with the exception of commercial ewe and ram classes (a commercial sheep is one ineligible for registration). Each registration paper must show the exhibitors name as owner. Registration papers will be checked.
  4. An exhibitor may weigh and show up to 10 market lambs.
  5. Market lambs will be shown by weight. ONLY Wethered lambs will be shown in Market class. Rams are not allowed.
  6. In accordance with the Missouri Department of Agriculture and Missouri State Fair health guidelines, all sheep and goats (including wethers) must have a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (health certificate) to be eligible to show. This health certificate must have been written within 30 days of exhibition. All sheep must also be identified either by ear tag, electronic implant, or tattoo. All animals could be subject to random drug testing.
  7. All Boone County market lambs are required to be weighed at the Weigh-In held on  May 8, 2024 5-7 PM at Boone County Fairgrounds Show Palace All wethered lambs must be banded prior to weigh-in.
  8. All market lambs must be scrapie tagged for identification. Lambs must be tagged at the time of the May weigh-in, or they won’t be weighed in.
  9. Slick shearing is required by fair weigh-in. All market lamb exhibitors must exhibit their lamb without excessive assistance. Hair above knees and hocks must be ¼ inch or less.
  10. Each exhibitor may sell only one blue ribbon or red ribbon market lamb. Exception: If an exhibitor has both Champion and Reserve Champion, they will be required to sell both lambs.
  11. All 4-H and FFA members in Missouri are eligible to show sheep in all classes except the Home Raised Market Lamb Class. Only Boone County exhibitors may show in this class. Home Raised Lambs must be shown in a market lamb class to be qualified for the Home Raised class. Home Raised definition can be found in the General Rules section.
  12. No artificial color allowed.
  13. Violation of any rule will be subject to disqualification from the current fair, including sale, and subsequent county fair.
  14. Fitting of lambs will take place on the fairgrounds or location of the Boone County Fair for that year.
  15. When a judge is handling lambs or when you are waiting to be judged, all four (4) feet must be on the ground. It is acceptable to briefly lift the front end of a lamb off 2 the ground to set the front feet.
  16. Lambs must weigh 110 lbs. @ weigh in the day of show . Animals will cross the scale ONE time. There will be no re-weighing of sheep.
  17. No lamb rules can be changed after the first livestock committee meeting following the county fair.
  18. Sale animals must be designated the night of the show. If not designated, the individual’s highest placing lamb will be sold.
